As a visual artist or designer/maker having strong visual representation of your work is very important. There are many different situations that you need to produce images of your work and each of these come with different requirements. Your images may need to be high quality images for galleries, grant applications, catalogues or images for your websites, social media marketing.

In this workshop you will get an overview of best practice for art reproduction photography and also a practical session on how to take quality photographs of your work with the equipment. The workshop will show you how to take photographs that accurately represent your work and also how to confidently output them for the different needs that you have.

The workshop will cover

  • How to light the work, avoid reflections and colour castes
  • Camera settings. Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, Jpeg or Raw, White Balance
  • Import and processing settings
  • Export for different purposes and sizes
  • Using We Transfer to send files
  • Backup methods for your photos
  • Using daylight and other light sources.
  • Using your own camera
  • Time for participants to practice taking photos of own work with assistance as required

Who should attend?

This practical workshop is suitable for any visual artists or designer/makers who want to learn the necessary skills to take images that accurately represent their work.

What to bring

Bring a piece of your artwork (2D or 3D) a laptop and whatever camera* you have access to. Also bring a tripod if you have one for your camera. If using a camera with separate lenses a Macro lens or medium telephoto lens is ideal but not essential.

*If you don’t currently own a camera you can still gain knowledge from the workshop.
