Creative Frame in partnership with The Dock and Visual Artists Ireland will present a professional development workshop for visual artists on writing about and presenting on your work.

Creative Frame in partnership with The Dock and Visual Artists Ireland will present two professional development workshops for visual artists on Friday March 16th in the Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon

Visual Artists Ireland in partnership with The Dock & Creative Frame – Show & Tell 10.15am – 12 noon

The purpose of Show & Tell is to allow artists to present work or concepts to each other in an informal atmosphere. The events are also designed to allow curators and artistic directors to keep up to date on what is current in artists’ studios without the need to do a large number of studio visits, as well as providing the wider general audience with an inside view of artistic practice.

There will be 6 artists presenting in all, invited by The Dock and Creative Frame

Writing About Your Work with Joanne Laws (1.30 – 4.30pm)

As an artist, you are required to write about your work for press releases, marketing purposes and for proposals or applications. The ability to convey information concisely in well-written artist’s statements, biographies and CVs will assist people in gaining an understanding of your practice.
This session will provide a workshopped approach to developing your artist’s statement, involving writing exercises and peer feedback. Joanne will discuss dos and don’ts when preparing artists’ statements and CVs. She will assist you to develop appropriate, clear and concise language to describe your work in a way that makes it engaging, personal and accessible to most readers.
Joanne Laws is an arts writer and researcher based in the west of Ireland. She is Features Editor of the Visual Artist’s News Sheet – Ireland’s main printed publication for the visual arts. Joanne is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) and has previously published writing in a range of Irish and international arts publications including: Art Papers (US), Art Monthly (UK), Cabinet (US) and Frieze (UK).
