Description of practice/Biography

About the Author
Angela McCabe was born in Coalisland, Co. Tyrone. She currently works as a psychologist at The Natural Healing Centre in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim.

Angela has been a social worker, a cordon-bleu chef and a textile designer at various times and in different parts of the world. After gaining an Honours Degree in Fine Arts at The University of Ulster, Belfast, Angela pursued her passion for Painting and Performance Art. Subsequently she did an MA in Art Therapy, and then lived in a Tibetan centre in Scotland where she studied Tibetan philosophy and Eastern Art. She continues to work for a Tibetan Charity.

Angela is the 2016 winner of the Listowel Poetry Collection Competition. Several of her poems have won prizes and have appeared in various literary magazines and anthologies around the world, as have some of her short stories. Angela has also written screen plays and made an award winning short film..

Influenced by the works of many outstanding Irish writers,she has facilitated John McGahern readers groups and has partaken in the McGahern summer schools in cooperation with NUI Galway and the Leitrim Arts Office. She has also facilitated ‘Dialogues through Literature’ cross-border reading groups, culminating in symposiums in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim.

Angela continues to organise and lead cross-border women’s writing groups.

Her first collection of poetry 'Honeymoon in Coalisland' was published by Alba Publishing in 2014. Her second collection 'Battenburgs and Lemon Drizzlers' was also published by Alba Publishing in 2016. Her next book 'All the Ground Running' will be published by Salmon Press in 2018. She is writing her fourth collection.
