First Music Contact has launched an online research survey to assess the state of support infrastructure in the Irish music industry. Anyone working in music in Ireland is invited to participate.
The survey forms part of a ten-year plan by the national music resource organisation to improve infrastructure for musicians and the music sector as a whole. It was developed with UK-based music industry research company Sound Diplomacy, and a steering group of musicians and other industry professionals.
The results of the survey will be used to develop a National Music Strategy, to promote informed investment in the sector by both industry and government, and establish programmes that work towards creating a sustainable industry.
CEO of First Music Contact, Angela Dorgan, commented on the research:
What we are trying to do is measure what intervention, support, impact and investment the sector needs to develop further from the ground up so that everyone, and in particular the makers, are helped to develop to their full potential so that this important contribution by music and musicians can be sustained.
